A group of ten sentenced of online harassment directed at Brigitte Macron

A court in Paris has ruled against ten people for perpetrating the online harassment of Brigitte Macron, the partner of French President, Emmanuel Macron.

The defendants faced allegations of circulating fabrications regarding her gender identity and sexuality, in addition to posting malicious remarks about the husband and wife's significant age difference.

The court delivered suspended prison sentences of as much as eight months to the perpetrators. The detailed judgment has yet to be released.

A circulating unfounded claim suggesting that Brigitte Macron is a transgender woman has been in circulation since her husband's rise to the presidency in 2017.

This latest legal outcome in France comes as the Macrons pursuing a libel case in the United States of America against political commentator Candace Owens, who has likewise promoted similar conspiracy theories about the French president's wife's identity.

Their complaint alleges that Owens brushed aside all credible evidence contradicting her allegations in favour of amplify the voices of notorious conspiracy peddlers.

Owens has regularly repeated these claims on her podcast and social networks, and in March 2024 declared that she would stake her entire professional reputation on her belief that Mrs. Macron was born a man.

Brigitte Macron first met her current spouse when she worked as an educator at his high school.

The pair married in 2007, when the then-29-year-old Emmanuel Macron was 29 and she was 54.
